Possible Serial Robber Hits Red Bank Avenue Convenience Store

West Deptford police said the man stole cash at knifepoint in the Sunday night robbery.

A man who is also a suspect in several other robberies in Gloucester and Camden counties robbed a local convenience store Sunday night, West Deptford police said.

The unidentified man walked into the One Stop Shoppe on Red Bank Avenue around 10:15 p.m. Sunday, showed the clerk a knife and grabbed an unspecified amount of cash before fleeing from the store, West Deptford police Chief Craig Mangano said.

The suspect took off running behind the store, toward Rock Products, and was chased by several men who heard the commotion in the convenience store from the pizzeria next door.

Mangano said West Deptford patrolmen arrived on scene within minutes of the robbery, set up a perimeter and brought in a K-9 unit to try to track the robber, but the search proved fruitless.

Witnesses described the man as a tall, thin white man in a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, a baseball hat, dark gloves and white sneakers. A surveillance photo of him from the store shows he had the hood up, nearly swallowing his face.

Anyone with any information or who might have seen the suspect after he disappeared behind the store is urged to call Det. Michael Pfeiffer at 856-853-4599 x163. West Deptford police are also coordinating with Cherry Hill, Gloucester Township and Washington Township police, after the same man allegedly robbed convenience stores and banks in those areas in the last week.

No one was hurt in the West Deptford robbery or the chase afterward, Mangano said.
