Rodriguez Facing Additional Charges in Red Bank Run Stabbing

Jacob Rodriguez has been hit with child endangerment charges in addition to attempted murder and weapons offenses.

The accused attacker has been hit with additional charges to go along with attempted murder and weapons offenses, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

Jacob Rodriguez, 34, was charged Wednesday with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, stemming from the June 22 knife attack that critically injured his 26-year-old girlfriend, who is the mother of two children.

The new charges accuse him of endangering the children by leaving them “alone and unattended” after stabbing their mother, “leaving her incapacitated and unable to care” for them.

Rodriguez, who had an on-and-off relationship with Brittany Hickman for about five years, had been living with her for about four weeks when the stabbing occurred in their apartment in the R building of the complex.

After Rodriguez allegedly stabbed her more than 50 times in her arms, legs and torso, Hickman was able to reach the door of a neighbor’s unit before collapsing. Her 5-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter, who is also Rodriguez’ child, were in the couple’s apartment.

Neither child was harmed in the attack, and they were placed with a relative. Hickman remains in Cooper University Hospital, but is no longer in intensive care.

Rodriguez is currently lodged in the Gloucester County Jail in default of $200,000 bail, which covers the endangering charges, as well as attempted murder and weapons offenses. He was .
