West Deptford Football Team Moves to 7-0, Tied For Fourth in Playoff Standings

West Deptford hosts Haddon Township in the final game before the cutoff date on Friday.

Despite remaining undefeated, the West Deptford High School football team are tied for fourth place in the South Jersey Group 2 standings with one week to go before the playoff cutoff date.

The Eagles have 103 points, the same as Bridgeton, which has a 6-2 record. West Deptford is 7-0. Bridgeton has no more games before the cutoff, meaning West Deptford can take sole possession of fourth place and possibly move up with a win on Friday.

At 6-1, Cinnaminson is also ahead of the Eagles, in third place with 106 points.

On Friday, West Deptford defeated Haddon Heights, 49-3: Mike Dawes, Gerald Owens and Isaiah Worthy each scored twice for West Deptford.

Owens scored on runs of 3 and 4 yards, while Worthy scored on a blocked punt and a 5-yard touchdown run.

Dawes had a touchdown passing and another rushing. He threw a 45-yard scoring pass to Shai Mumford, and scored on the ground from 7 yards out.

West Deptford hosts Haddon Township (2-5) on Friday night, 7 p.m.

Field hockey:

Top-seeded West Deptford cruised into the semifinals with a 7-1 win over Sterling in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 playoffs this week.

Ciara Giroud led the way with a pair of goals. Jade Freeberg and Lauren Henry each had a goal and two assists, and Christina Petito, Zoe Shannon and Abigail Strano each had a goal. Goalie Melissa Gregorio made six saves.

The Eagles will face Lower Cape May in the semifinals.

Boys' soccer:

West Deptford 5, Lindenwold 2: Luke McKeown led the way with a pair of goals. Ryan Kappre, Gary Simmons and Cole Van Dorick also found the back of the net. Goalie Perry Corsetti made six saves in the win.

West Deptford jumped out to a 3-1 lead at halftime.

West Deptford 3, Woodbury 0: Zach Peterson, Cole Van Dorick and Jake Warlow each scored in the win for the Eagles. Goalie Perry Corsetti made five saves to preserve the shutout.

Girls' soccer:

Egg Harbor Township 4, West Deptford 3: The game was tied at halftime, but Egg Harbor Township outscored West Deptford, 3-2, in the second half.

Sam Budd, Natalie Carrero and Gabby Sileo scored for West Deptford.

Goalie Maggie Davis made 11 stops in the loss.
